چکیده

To clarify the effects of vanadium additions on strengthening mechanisms tempered martensitic steel, microstructures, precipitates, dislocation densities, and tensile properties water-quenched Fe–0.2C–0.5Si–2.5Mn–xV (mass%; x = 0–0.82) steels were analyzed. The carbide precipitates plate-shaped had a Baker–Nutting orientation relationship with ferrite matrix. size shape slip plane considered when evaluating contribution precipitation strengthening. increase in yield strength upon adding 0.82 mass% to steel was mainly caused by owing high density. This study demonstrates that might be overestimated if it is assumed all hinder motion Orowan mechanism.

Martensite in Steels

The name martensite is after the German scientist Martens. It was used originally to describe the hard microconstituent found in quenched steels. Martensite remains of the greatest technological importance in steels where it can confer an outstanding combination of strength (> 3500MPa) and toughness (> 200MPam 1 2 ). Many materials other than steel are now known to exhibit the same type of soli...

Characteristics of Hydrogen Embrittlement, Stress Corrosion Cracking and Tempered Martensite Embrittlement in High-strength Steels

Characteristics of tempered martensite embrittlement (TME), hydrogen embrittlement (HE), and stress corrosion cracking (SCC) in high-strength steels are reviewed. Often, it is important to determine unambiguously by which of these mechanisms failure occurred, in order to suggest the right actions to prevent failure recurrence. To this aim, samples made of high-strength AISI 4340 alloy steel wer...

Effects of Strain Hardening and Fine Structure on Strength and Toughness of Tempered Martensite in Carbon Steels

A series of medium-carbon low alloy steels was quenched to martensite and tempered at 150 C. This low-temperature-tempered (LTT) martensite was subjected to uniaxial tensile and impact testing. Yield and ultimate tensile strength and uniform elongation increased, and post uniform and total elongation and fracture toughness decreased, with increasing carbon concentration. The carbon dependence o...

Creep Fracture in Tempered Martensitic Steels

Creep strength enhanced ferritic (CSEF) steels which contain 9 to 12%Cr have become the steels of choice in many industrial high energy systems. The typical compositions of alloy types P91, P92 and E911 are compared with 12CrMoV in Table 1. These steels are selected for use in applications where high temperature creep can occur because of a favorable balance between cost and properties [1,2]. T...

The Silicon Effect in the Tempering of Martensite in Steels

High-silicon steels have long been known to possess exceptional resistance to tempering, but the reasons for this effect were unknown. We report here a study of the third stage of tempering of these steels, in which cementite is formed. In a 0.75 wt% C 1.4 wt% Si alloy steel, tempered for 1 hour at 380°C, it is found that silicon atoms are rejected from the growing cementite into the ferrite ma...
